  1. I just wanted to bring this up for discussion for down the road. The following element of the RFA compensation has always bothered me:

If the winning team has multiple picks of the appropriate round, the team losing the player selects which draft pick to take in compensation.

So I'm sitting in ZFAC-III with three first rounders, but, because one of those picks is the 1.2, I feel like I'm completely handcuffed in terms of being able to participate in a pretty strong RFA market. It seems like the teams best equipped to compete in RFA are those who are more successful, and thus have lower picks. I'll probably feel differently next year, when I have finally have some RFAs of value, but I've always thought it would be better if, when making their final salary offer for an RFA, an owner with multiple picks could also designate which pick they are offering.

There is some strategy involved, because if they really want the guy, they can't low-ball on the pick, just like they can't low-ball on the salary. And the RFA owner would still have the opportunity to match and keep the player if they didn't like the pick compensation.

    Thoughts?

  2. So I understand the need for the two-open limit during the first couple weeks of free agency, but once all the high-profile players and big money are no longer on the table, is it really still necessary?

Here's my issue: right now I'm at 37 guys in ZFAC-III and 27 guys in ZFAC-V ... I've got a LOT of bodies to add. Right now there are 13 guys up for bid in ZFAC-V and 11 in ZFAC-III--half of what could be open. By now, most guys are playing coy, because they've only got the cap space to add a couple more guys before the rook draft. Then there are the guys who are just bored and doing the minimum, checking in every 2-3 days and bumping a bid here or there.

So with the limited number of guys opening and the number of guys who are dropping in to play value police with 5-6 hours left on a bid, I'm lucky if I can add a guy every 2-3 days. I'm not even going to be close to where I want to be by the time the draft starts and we get put on hold (which affects how I'm going to draft).

My situation is sort of an extreme example, I know (one's a serious rebuilder and the other is a newly inherited orphan I'm trying to place my stamp on). But I'd like to propose either an increase in the open limit after the first couple of weeks or maybe a speed round in the final week before the rook draft, in which there is no limit. Not only would either of those options help guys in my situation, I think they would renew some interest among the owners who have been doing this for a month-plus and who are drifting.

Just some thoughts I wanted to bounce off the guys who have a lot more seasons under their belts.
